I finally got around to making the walk between Bournemouth and Swanage. I’m annoyed that it took me so long before attempting this, but delighted that I have now found such an excellent walk. I’ve lived here for almost 10 years in total in my life, but have never taken the time to do this trip. I had hoped to do it with Will Whiting when we were shooting our little film but the weather was insanely hot and we were carrying heavy bags and had already done a few days of intense walking. Excuses aside, I woke up on this fine Saturday morning and knew it was time to tick it off the list.
Technically, the Sandbanks ferry is the start (or end, depending which way you’re going) of the South West Coast Path. I went over as a foot passenger and walked along Knoll Beach for the first couple of miles. It is a nudist beach and has been famous for being in a Coldplay video and doubling as Spain in an Only Fools and Horses episode (as well as many other things). It was a glorious day but what started out quite hazy in Bournemouth soon cleared into a scorcher, and I was not well prepared. Nevertheless, I carried on and made it to Swanage in good time before taking the open top Purbeck Breezer bus back to home to Bournemouth.
