This album was inspired by the global disillusionment with work-life balance following the Covid-19 pandemic, where terms like ‘quiet quitting’ and ‘The Great Resignation’ made headlines. I was also inspired by some wider reading on similar themes such as Bullshit Jobs by David Graeber, Orbiting the Giant Hairball by Gordon MacKenzie and The Refusal of Work by David Frayne.
It was recorded over a frustratingly long period of time and was almost abandoned on a number of occasions due to falling in and out of love with the project. Like the rest of my music, I consider it abandoned as opposed to complete, finished at a point where I will otherwise scrap it forever. Like Lunarticks and Qualia, I was helped by a loose concept and a series of creative decisions. I specifically wanted more emphasis on harmonies, both through MIDI choirs and my own vocals.
The inspirations were similar to some of my other work. I was listening to a lot of The Good, The Bad and The Queen as well as The Sound of Bailey/ The Title Sequence.
