Autumn bites

Another month with Covid restrictions and more to come it seems. For some reason a difficult year seems to get worse when the days get shorter and wetter. But here we are. I am fortunate enough to still be employed and in good health, so I should not complain.

The switch to online teaching has been interesting. In many ways it is much better than the physical world. I personally find the quizzes and discussion boards are better ways of monitoring student progress than seminars and lectures were. I think the asynchronous delivery (and the lack of anything else to do) has driven up engagement. Lectures have always been at the mercy of the timetable slot and whatever else exciting was going on the night before. However, the development of the material takes ages and it is definitely not a substitute for the face to face experience. I think a mixture of the two will be the perfect way forward in future (dare we dream?)

Filmmaking has also been put on hold while the weather sucks, the law forbids and the workload squeezes. I have yet to finish the score for Isra and have some footage for another short experimental film, but both will probably be Christmas before I get a chance to do them.
