It’s been over four years since the last post. Time flies. In actual fact, it has felt like four years to be honest. Lots of changes happened since I last updated the blog, most of which are boring but the headlines include: new job, new house, new dog, PhD complete. The silence has been deliberate – I just wanted to get on with the tasks of a new job.
Now however, I feel ready to pursue some old interests again. After a hiatus from filmmaking and music, I recorded some more music in 2018 and started planning some films. The edit from The Confusion of Tongues still haunts me, and whilst a lot has been done to tidy it up, there’s still some touches to make before I can say that it’s the best we can do. How come it has taken almost five years? Well, lots of personal changes, broken promises, unique challenges etc… it will appear in 2019 though, in some shape or another. Not that I am blogging this on the 72 Project anymore, as I am not officially a part of it at this point in time. I feel obliged to say that I still hold responsibility for the last movie and the previous projects before it, but I decided not to play a part in it moving forward.
So what is going to appear here? Well, I will probably make intermittent updates about different projects that I have going on. A long ambition was to develop this website into a kind of digital shoebox to store all my shit in. This Christmas I finally made that happen. I’ve decided one way to make myself slightly more accountable (to myself) is to list the things I’ve read and watched each month, in the style of Steven Soderbergh. While this seems a bit wanky and self-indulgent, I do think it helps me remember the stuff I’ve actually read/watched and reminds my students that filmmakers should read and watch things on a regular basis. Leading by example etc.
