Positive shoots of recovery

June started with Will Whiting and I travelling to Weymouth to make a film. The plan was to walk back the 40+ miles along the South West Coast Path while making a grungy, black and white, single character comedy. In reality, we walked some of the path and made some of the film. Note to self, either walk or film, don’t walk and film! That is not to say that we were going for some handheld vibe. We were carrying a lightweight tripod and a camera with lenses. The kit was actually a positive experience, and I look forward to making more stuff with a tiny crew when using it. Our disadvantage was the weather, which was unseasonably hot on one day, then seasonably shit for the rest of it. Another obstacle was the fact that the walk was far more intensive than we had imagined and our bodies far less fit. It was like being in one of those expectation versus reality memes. Nevertheless, we shot some stuff, and I acted in it, so it will be interesting to see what comes out of it. I already have a rough cut and would like to turn it around over the summer.

Will looking seasonal

Elsewhere, I have been marking work, preparing research bids and book proposals and enjoying the delayed Euro football championship. I have some hope for a creative summer, but also need a rest, so don’t want to swap one kind of work for another.
