Bournemouth towards France

This post has been uploaded as a blog post retrospectively from the diary written at the time.

My adventure began at 18.44 at Bournemouth Station. Whilst in my mind this journey has been long overdue, my body is too tired to even imagine ten days on trains around Europe However, after a summer working at the wonderful Borders bookshop, I have to leave to do something exciting.

And expensive, I hasten to add. As if the £400+ isn’t enough, I learn that my single ticket to Portsmouth is £13.20 and is never checked. I arrived into Portsmouth at 20.45 and wonder where I am for fifteen minutes until my bus arrives.

I arrived at the port in good time and sat reading a paper that I found on the train. I check in, I wait, I try my bank account (a common pastime with usually inane results.) However, this time is BINGO! £10 comes out and I am now £85 in the clear in case anything goes wrong.

The ferry seems pleasant enough. I land on seats by a window with a table, at which I write this now. Sleep is much needed, and if that fails, Shanghai Noon is on at 1.15am in the cinema.

France will be interesting when they have a fuel problem and the docks have been cut off for the last ten days. All will be fine for a train ride I am sure.
