Oh September!

I’ve been busy editing lately upon various projects that have taken me away from cutting the “Crushing Snails” footage. It is a shame as I am really keen to cut some of Katie’s scenes. I have a number left to shoot with a very special actress and I hope to do that soon.Ha ha. You thought I meant Audrey Tautou. The power of suggestion! No, it is someone else. But with all the talk of French snail fun, Julie Delpy and a few people mentioning the gnome in Amélie being a similar premise to this project, I decided to share with you one of the scenes that perplexed me during my time in university. There is always a debate in film studies about whether the filmmaker should make you conscious of their presence, and I remember enjoying this film so much at the time but my brain immediately began to wonder how they shot the stone skimming on the canal as soon as I saw it.

Of course many people would just prefer to let the magic happen and be passive and I respect that hugely. But it was these puzzles that attracted me to cinema and they remain one of the reasons I still love doing what I do today! I hope you enjoy…
